It’s an instrument that records data from sensors that monitor autonomic and physical activity, including respiration, cardiovascular, and electrodermal activity, in response to test stimulus questions.
Most commonly referred to as a lie detector, the polygraph instrument has several components that are equipped with sensors which will measure and record the examinee's physiological data.
Attached to the instrument are different accessories such as pneumograph tubes, which are wrapped around a person's chest, and are used to record changes in the rate and depth of respiration. A blood pressure cuff is used to measure the changes in the cardiovascular system, while the electrodermal activity sensors are used to record the changes occurring in the sweat glands. Other accessories may also be used which can help in providing a better translation of data.
The polygraph examiner will then analyze and interpret the examinee's physiological data collected during the examination.
There are many who offer lie detection services and choosing one can be very difficult.
Reputation, continued polygraph education, certification, membership and credibility are the key elements in the selection of an expert polygraphist.
